Who We Are

WITI was founded on July 1, 2024 originally as Women’s Equality Space (WES), because we looked around and realized LBQ+ women in Nigeria are being left behind in the digital age. Queer women in Nigeria are denied access to opportunities to learn tech skills, access safe online spaces, or use digital tools to protect ourselves and tell our stories. Instead of waiting for change, we decided to build it ourselves and that's how it was born. In 2025, it was officially renamed to Women in Innovation and Tech Initiative during its accreditation process.
